PM Modi Launches Semiconductor Revolution with Rs 1.25T Investment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate India’s semiconductor ambitions today at the event ‘India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat.’ Through the virtual launch of three significant semiconductor projects valued at Rs 1.25 lakh crore collectively, Modi aims to position India as a leading hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and innovation. The event will mark the beginning of the semiconductor fabrication unit at the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Gujarat, along with two Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facilities—one in Morigaon, Assam, and the other in Sanand, Gujarat.

These state-of-the-art facilities will bolster India’s semiconductor landscape, laying a solid foundation for the nation in this technological field. Expected to generate numerous job opportunities, not only within the semiconductor sector but also in related industries like electronics and telecommunications, these initiatives align with the government’s vision for economic growth and self-reliance.

Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd (TEPL) has been entrusted with establishing the semiconductor fabrication facility at DSIR, marking the country’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication plant under the Modified Scheme for setting up semiconductor fabs in India. With an investment exceeding Rs 91,000 crore, this project signifies a crucial milestone in India’s semiconductor journey.
