Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) recently announced a tender for conducting a feasibility study on constructing double-decker flyovers along three key Metro corridors in the city. These corridors include JP Nagar 4th Phase to Hebbal (29 km), Hosahalli to Kadabagere (11.45 km), and Sarjapur to Ibbalur via ORR Junction (14 km), along with the Agara-Koramangala 3rd Block stretch (2.4 km), part of the Sarjapur-Hebbal corridor (37 km).

However, two Phase 3 corridors of the Metro, JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura via ORR West, and Hosahalli to Kadabagere via Magadi Road, have been awaiting approval from the Union government since November 2022.

Additionally, BMRCL is evaluating a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a Metro line from Sarjapur to Agara, Koramangala, Dairy Circle, and connecting to Hebbal via Mekhri Circle under Namma Metro Phase-3A, pending state government approval.

This initiative aligns with the government’s vision to enhance public transportation infrastructure and promote sustainable mobility solutions amidst Bangalore’s rapid urbanization and population growth. The double-decker model offers a promising solution to the city’s transportation challenges.

The Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line, linking Ragigudda to Central Silk Board, has already set a precedent with its double-decker structure along Marenahalli road. Its completion in the coming months marks a significant milestone in the city’s transportation development.
