CITB HAS ANNOUNCED it is making changes to the Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test for Managers and Professionals.

To ensure that the test remains relevant, fit for purpose, and reflects changes made to legislation, working practices and new technology, CITB has updated both the test and the revision materials. The changes will come into effect on 27 June 2023.

Test Changes

Managers and professionals in the construction industry are responsible for complying with, embedding and implementing effective HS&E practices.

To support this, CITB is:

updating and extending the range of subjects covered in the test,
updating existing questions and adding new ones,
and updating revision materials.

The test already covers six key areas, including legal and management; health and welfare; general safety; high risk activities; environment; and specialist activities.

However, based on industry feedback, the updated test now includes six additional subjects which the CITB says are ‘hugely relevant’ to today’s managers – and the managers of the future.

These additional subjects are:

Mental health
Leadership
Occupational health governance
Behavioural safety
New technologies
Improving legislative compliance

Updated Revision Materials

CITB says it recommends that all candidates revise to give themselves the best chance of passing the test.

Candidates taking the test on or after 27 June 2023 should ensure that they are using the new revision materials which have been developed to align with the changes to the test.

The new revision materials will be available from 2 May 2023 via the CITB Shop. All revision material will be clearly labelled and signposted with the latest version number.

An app which can be used to take mock tests in advance of a scheduled test is also available for download via the Apple App and Google Play stores. Purchases of the app cost £6.99.
