Wienerberger Completes its Largest Acquisition
ROOFING and building manufacturer Wienerberger has completed the acquisition of French-headquartered Terreal, specialist in roofing repair and renovation products.
As part of the largest acquisition in the company’s history, Wienerberger will take over Terreal’s businesses in France, Italy, Spain and the USA, as well as Creaton in Germany. The company says it expects the acquisition to generate additional annual revenues of approximately €725 million. The combined pitched-roof business is projected to add up to a total roof surface of about 75 million square meters covered per year.
The transaction comprises 28 production sites and almost 3,000 Terreal employees who will join Wienerberger.
Wienerberger CEO Heimo Scheuch, said: “With the acquisition of Terreal, Wienerberger positions itself as the European pitched-roof expert capable of integrating solar, rainwater, and additional solutions, including accessories and insulation material, and thus establishes a strong platform for further growth.”
Sustainability
Weinberger says the acquisition is also an ‘essential move’ in the company’s efforts to meet its sustainability targets. Wienerberger’s growth strategy is focused on increasing its range of roofing products for the renovation and refurbishment of European buildings.
The company says this will be decisive in achieving the targets of the European Green Deal, as old roofs account for roughly 30% of energy loss in buildings. In a step towards providing more affordable housing, Wienerberger also plans to further develop innovative solar and water management solutions to help reduce emissions and save valuable resources.
With 200 production sites, Wienerberger generated revenues of approximately €5 billion and EBITDA of €1 billion in 2022.
