SVPI Airport to Launch State-of-the-Art Terminal by FY 2026

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport is set to unveil a new integrated terminal building by FY 2026, designed to enhance the passenger experience significantly. With projections showing a rise to 1.98 crore passengers per year by FY 2026, up from 1.1 crore in FY 2024, the SVPI airport operator is planning a state-of-the-art facility for both domestic and international travel.

The new terminal will feature multiple entry gates, a spacious check-in area with minimal crowding, and numerous security checkpoints to ensure a smooth journey to the boarding gate. This project, backed by a Rs 3,130 crore investment from Adani Ahmedabad International Airport Limited (AAIAL), will commence soon.

The existing Gujsail terminal will be relocated to facilitate the new terminal’s construction. Currently, terminals T1 and T2 handle around 1 crore passengers combined, but the NITB will double this capacity to 2 crore passengers. The new terminal will offer extensive seating, larger security hold areas, more eateries, recreational facilities, and at least 10 aerobridges. Additionally, the NITB will incorporate DigiYatra technology to minimize transit time to the boarding gate to as little as 12 minutes.

Construction will occur in phases, and once the NITB is operational, the existing T1 terminal will be demolished for further expansion. This phased development is crucial to accommodate the anticipated 80% increase in passenger traffic over the next few years. “We anticipate a significant rise in footfall at SVPI airport, necessitating the new terminal to meet future passenger needs,” stated a source familiar with the project.
