Shillong Smart City Project Advances with ICCC Focus
The Shillong Smart City Project, under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India’s funding, is making significant strides towards completion, with a key focus on the completion of its Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). Contrary to misinformation circulating on social media, the total budget allocated for the ICCC stands at Rs 1.51 billion, highlighting the government’s commitment to advancing smart city initiatives in the region.
One of the pivotal components of the project is the PAN City initiative, encompassing critical infrastructure such as the Radio Frequency Network (RF NW), Data Centre (DC), ICCC Building, and Additional Software. These elements are designed to enhance the city’s technological capabilities and lay a strong foundation for future smart city endeavors.
As part of the project’s technological advancements, Shillong is set to witness the deployment of a range of innovative solutions. This includes the installation of 368 CCTV cameras, strategically positioned to enhance surveillance and optimize traffic management. Additionally, emergency call boxes (ECB), public address systems (PAS), variable message displays (VMDs), and LED streetlights with Light Point Controller (LPC) will be installed, contributing to improved public safety and urban infrastructure.
Moreover, the project includes the establishment of public Wi-Fi hotspots, providing residents and visitors with seamless connectivity. The integration of GPS-based vehicle tracking for Solid Waste Management (SWM) vehicles and smart bins underscores the city’s commitment to enhancing its waste management infrastructure, promoting cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
At the heart of these initiatives lies the ICCC, envisioned as the nerve center for city operations and planning. The ICCC will play a pivotal role in data processing, emergency response coordination, surveillance, and the implementation of various smart city applications. This centralized approach is poised to revolutionize how the city functions, ushering in a new era of efficiency and innovation in urban governance.
