Roofing Today’s 30 Under Thirty Success

BACK IN 2019, Roofing Today magazine compiled a list of 30 young roofing professionals who were driving forward in their early careers through their outstanding achievements. One roofer who made the 30 Under Thirty list was Tom Knight.

Tom is the owner of T K Roofing and Property Services based in Truro. His career took off when he won the 2016 South West SkillBuild regional heat, going on to compete in the national finals.

After gaining his Level 2 NVQ in Roof Slating and Tiling in 2017 via the CITB Specialist Applied Skills Programme delivered by the South West Roofing Training Group (SWRTG), he was awarded the Highly Commended title at the BMI Redland Apprentice of the Year competition.

Since then, personal development hasn’t stopped for Tom who has now gained his Level 3 Award in Education and Training. He has been shadowing his mentor, Alan Lander, for the last eight months and is set to teach his first cohort of roofing apprentices next month for the SWRTG at one of its dedicated roofing training centres in Exeter.

Tom’s determination, love of roofing and high levels of workmanship have ensured his success. Back in 2019, Tom spoke to Roofing Today about his ambitions for the future, saying he wanted to “encourage others into roofing as a viable and worthwhile career and eventually would like to teach roofing”.

Tom’s training journey has now come full circle – from starting out as an apprentice with the SWRTG, to now teaching the apprenticeship to other aspiring young roofers.

It just shows, with a bit of determination and passion, anything can happen!
