Roofing Firm MD Takes On Kilimanjaro Charity Climb
THE MANAGING DIRECTOR of a Blackpool roofing firm has made it to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro after a gruelling seven-day hike to raise money for charity.
For the last five years, Sean Lynden, MD of Blackpool Industrial Roofing, has been fundraising for local charities, Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children’s Hospice. This includes hosting an annual charity golf day which last year raised £50,000 in donations from local businesses, as well as sponsors such as Polyroof, WestWood and ICB Waterproofing.
Wanting to exceed last year’s total, Sean set his boldest challenge yet: to climb the world’s tallest free-standing mountain.
Kilimanjaro Charity Climb
On 14 July, after rigorous training involving daily two-hour gym sessions to prepare for the climb, Sean, along with his two friends Andy Nuttall and Kevin Clough, headed to Tanzania to tackle the famous mountain trek.
After a seven-day hike in challenging conditions, facing temperatures as low as -17 degrees, the trio reached the 5895m summit on Monday 22 July at 5.30am BST.
Upon completing his decent down the mountain, Sean Lynden said: “I am blown away by the response from friends, family, and like-minded people with so many kind words to say on our donations page on Just Giving.”
So far this year, Sean and Blackpool Industrial Roofing have raised over £30,000 and hope to add to this total at the company’s annual golf day on 10 August.
