RG Group signs £121m Newcastle rental homes job

Contractor RG Group has signed another major building job with client Olympian Homes to deliver 519 build to rent flats on the banks of the River Tyne between the Redheugh and King Edward VII bridges in Newcastle.

It is RG Group’s fourth major project with Olympian following earlier awards in Manchester, Leeds and Nottingham.

The 325,000 sq ft Pottery Lane scheme will be delivered in two phases. The first 11-storey block, with 292 private units, will be completed in the first quarter of 2026, with an additional six-storey, 227-home building due to be built in 2027.

The buildings will house one and two-bed rental apartments, with around 10,000 sq ft of space for a gym, co-working facilities, two roof terraces and cinema room.

Ground investigations, archaeology and work on the sub-structure are already underway and the deal means work can now start on the building project, three years after planning was first granted.

Olympian advanced the scheme after signing a funding deal with American investor Hines this week.
