Gilbert-Ash takes £30m Tate Liverpool revamp
Tate Liverpool has signed Northern Ireland’s Gilbert-Ash as the main contractor for a major reimagining of the landmark gallery on Royal Albert Dock.
This near £30m redevelopment of the iconic 1846 warehouse designed by 6a architects recently gained planning permission and listed building consent.
Planned works involve a major remodelling of the building to improve the gallery’s visibility and presence on the dock underlining its credentials as a leading international cultural institution.
Gilbert-Ash will deliver significant alterations throughout the galleries including breakout of floors, new lifts and stairs, as well as a complete building services refit and façade replacement.

“Project Director, Rodney Coalter, who recently completed the National Portrait Gallery, London, will head up the team.
“The team is already in place finalising plans to deal with the many logistical and technical challenges that lie ahead, in advance of a start on site in early 2024.
