Everton Stadium Barrel Clad Roof Complete

THE LAST section of the barrel clad roof has been installed on the new Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool.

Panel number 872 was finally lifted into place more than seven months after the first panel was fitted in December 2023.

Aided by a specially-adapted mechanical crane attachment, which is able to manipulate the flexible pieces into position, the panels were installed along the entire length of the east and west stands. With the final panel in place, the curved edges of the roof structure are now fully formed.

Each panel, consisting of six pieces of polished aluminium, is specifically perforated to mitigate the effects of the weather. The panel design has been rigorously tested after being subjected to wind speeds and rainwater in excess of what can be expected on Liverpool’s waterfront.

The design of the expertly perforated panels will result in rainwater draining into specifically installed channels and into two subterranean harvesting tanks located in the north-east corner of the stadium. From there, the water collected can be utilised for flushing the 914 WCs on site and also for watering and maintaining the playing surface.

While the barrel structure of the roof is complete, work to install solar PV panels continues in the south stand. When complete, the futuristic roof will complement the 731 columns of red brick, Archibald Leitch patterned brick facades, contrasting anodised black metal panels and reflective glass frontage, all of which tower into the north Liverpool skyline.
