CSCS to Host Industry Accreditation Webinar

CSCS IS HOSTING a webinar for those impacted by the withdrawal of CSCS cards issued under Industry Accreditation (IA) or ‘Grandfather Rights’.

First announced in 2019, the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) will stop issuing new IA cards from 30 June, 2024 and all cards issued under the scheme will become invalid at the end of 2024.

The withdrawal of industry accreditation as a means to gain a CSCS card will be the final step towards achieving the Construction Leadership Council’s goal of CSCS cards are only given to construction workers with or working towards getting a construction qualification.

Industry Accreditation Webinar

The CSCS webinar on ending IA cards takes place on Monday, 7 August 2023 between 11:00 and 11:45am.

CSCS’s Head of Operations, Garry Mortimer, and Head of Communications, Alan O’Neile, will give a talk on the withdrawal of IA and the support available before answering questions. The webinar will be recorded and distributed to industry.

During the webinar, guests will be taken through the following areas:

Why Industry Accreditation is being withdrawn.
Straightforward routes off IA that exist for many individuals.
Flexible assessment routes that ensure individuals do not need to attend college to gain a qualification.
Increased CITB grants to help those who need to undertake qualifications.
Other CSCS updates.

It is estimated that there were around 60,000 CSCS cards issued under Grandfather Rights in 2019. While no new cards were available from 2010, existing cardholders were able to renew their cards under the same conditions they first obtained the card.

The CSCS has published ongoing guidance for different categories of cardholder, according to occupation and qualifications held. It emphasises that experienced construction worker cardholders will not need to go to college to obtain a qualification. In most instances these experienced workers will be able to submit evidence of competence and undergo an interview to obtain the necessary qualification.
