Bauder Eyes New Freeport Distribution Hub

INTERNATIONAL commercial flat roofing manufacturer Bauder is planning to create a distribution hub at a Freeport East site in Stowmarket.

An application on behalf of the commercial roof systems company – which has a site in Landseer Road, Ipswich – has been lodged with Mid Suffolk District Council.

The plans submitted are for a 44,000 sq ft hub at Gateway 14 – a Freeport East site.

Bauder – whose parent company is in Germany – manufactures building construction materials, supplying waterproofing membranes and insulation to make buildings watertight and thermally efficient.

The 160-year-old firm also offers green and blue roofs, solar photovoltaic systems for renewable energy generation and rooflights.

Gateway 14’s Freeport status and tax benefits, together with the site’s commitment to sustainability, are said to be the basis for choosing Gateway 14 for the location of the firm’s new distribution facility.

The high-spec buildings at Gateway 14 include EV charging, LED lighting, solar PV, smart energy systems and rainwater harvesting. Buildings are Very Good BREEAM rated and biodiversity is a priority.

The plans for Bauder’s new 12m high building include a barrel-vaulted roof, a hazardous store, 37 car and 3 motorbike spaces and a 25-cycle bike shed. Additionally, loading areas, service yards and office space are included.

Mid Suffolk District Council’s Cllr Richard Winch said: “The green economy is an emerging market that we are keen to encourage in Mid Suffolk, and as part of our aspirations for Gateway 14. Pending planning permission, we are delighted to welcome a leader in the sustainable construction sector to the site.”

Property developer Jaynic is the developer partner for Gateway 14 which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mid Suffolk District Council.

Jaynic will be delivering the freehold unit and – subject to permission – work is expected to start in early summer.
