150 jobs axed as G Works Construction collapses

Somerset-based civil engineering and groundwork specialist G Works Construction has fallen into administration.

Administrators from EY Parthenon have laid off 150 staff from an overall workforce that exceeded 300 including self-employed operatives.

The £28m turnover firm specialised in civils for commercial and large residential developments as well as industrial and retail buildings.

It worked for many of the major contractors including BAM, Balfour Beatty, Kier and Sir Robert McAlpine and Willmott Dixon

Most recently the firm was working for ISG at Panattoni Park Avonmouth, one of the largest ever speculatively built warehouses in the UK.

The subsidiary blacktop business G Works Surfacing continues to trade normally.
