119 RAAC schools to be rebuilt, 110 to get removal grants
The Government has completed its Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete audit of the school estate and found 1% schools impacted.
Today the Government committed to remove RAAC from all schools in England, retrofitting or rebuilding blocks at the 234 schools found to contain dangerous aerated concrete panels and beams within the building fabric.
Just over half – around 119 schools – will have one or more buildings rebuilt or refurbished, nearly all funded through the School Rebuilding Programme after they were included in the final tranche of allocations announced on Thursday.
A further 110 schools and colleges will benefit from fresh grant funding to remove RAAC from their buildings where works will typically be smaller in scale.

Five schools and colleges will avoid works by taking the building out of the school estate over the longer term.
RAAC schools with the most serious problems in effect took up the last 114 places in the final tranche of allocations on the SRP with just 8-non RAAC schools making the cut for upgrades in this final round of awards.
The total rebuilding and repair programme has now been closed at 513 schools. See full SRP programme.
The Department for Education said that the 10-year SRP would continue to prioritise school buildings with the highest condition need across England through rebuilding or significantly refurbishing buildings.
This means that where there are significant risks RAAC schools will be prioritised for works funding.
A spokeswoman for the DfE said the announcement provided certainty for individual schools or colleges in England on how the Government would support the removal of RAAC from their buildings.
